Established in 1973 the Central Services Agency was preceded by the Northern Ireland Health Services Board that had been in operation since the inception of the NHS in 1948.
The Agency is an integral part of the Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland, providing support services to the DHSSPS, HSS Boards, Trusts and Agencies. It is managed by the Agency Board consisting of a Chairman, Chief Executive, non-executive and executive Directors.
Employing over 600 staff from various sites throughout Northern Ireland, the Agency delivers its services through a number of business units who each provide a different function to sections of the NIHSS.

All of these services are provided through the Central Services Agency and at a number of sites throughout Northern Ireland. The headquarters are situated at 2 Franklin Street, Belfast, BT2 8DQ.
